A geiger counter radiation monitoring station in Kawauchi. Restrictions on residents living in, and visiting their homes and business in Kawauchi, have just been relaxed and approximately 533 people have moved back out of an original town population of 2,856, in Kawauchi, Japan on Friday 6th April 2012. The residents initially left due to fears over high levels of nuclear radiation contamination from the explosions at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant which is approximately 25-30km away from the town. The nuclear plant exploded in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami which hit the Tohoku coastline on 11th March 2011.
