Yoshiyuki Kono, a survivor of the June 1994 sarin gas attack in Matsumoto, photographed in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday 30th November 2011. .Kono was at one time the main suspect in the sarin gas attack, and became known as the "Poison Gas Man", but this allegation was later dropped and he was formerly apologised to by the Police. Kono's wife suffered during the attack and fell into a coma, from which she did not re-awake, dying in 2008. After the sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995, the blame for the Matsumoto incident was shifted to the cult Aum Shinrikyo.
