104 year old Takashi Shimokawara, the World Record holder for javelin, shot putt and discus, in the Over-100 year olds categories, was a legend in his home town of Kamaishi, Japan.

Shimokawara-san took up the field sports at the age of 98. His world records were for Javelin 12.75metres, discus 8.82metres, and shot putt 5.11metres.

Shimokawara-san took up the field sports at the age of 98. His world records were for Javelin 12.75metres, discus 8.82metres, and shot putt 5.11metres.

On March 11th 2011 Shimokawara-san (aged 104yrs), along with his son and daughter-in-law died in the tsunami which ripped through lower Kamaishi, in the wake of the Magnitude9 earthquake whch struck north eastern Japan.
One month after the earthquake his Grandson and his friends tried as best they could to clean Shimokawara-san's house and rescuse any personal belongings.
