In East New Britain Island Large areas of virgin natural forest are being harvested for timber, then clear cut to make way for oil palm plantations. These plantations grow the crop whose fruit is the source of oil for use as eco fuels, and in a variety of foods. The devastation of the virgin forestry deprives the local resource owners of a constant, sustainable source of food, and crops for providing an income.
