200502 Kiribati Atoll, King Tides... (87/94)

Children of Betio village play amongst up-turned boats, and garbage brought in by strong surf caused by king tides which hit the coast of the Pacific island of Kiribati. The high tides caused damage to homes and crops.The islands, and their way of life, are endangered by rising sea water levels which are eroding the fragile atoll, home to approximately 92,000 people.
